Living in Antigua: choose a home for your daily routine.
A home’s character comes through in photos. Its practicality becomes clear when you visit and consider your routine.
Historic centre or nearby areas: start with your routine
Antigua Guatemala is a UNESCO World Heritage site. If its historic centre appeals to you, compare the exact location with your weekly activities. Visit at your usual departure and return times. For homes outside the centre, check access routes rather than assuming a journey time from map distance.
What to check during a viewing
Walk through the rooms in daylight. Look at ventilation, privacy, parking access and the visible condition of roofs and walls. Ask about water supply, storage, hot water and internet service at that address. A terrace or courtyard may be appealing; consider how you would actually use it.
Compare the full cost
Ask which maintenance charges, utilities, taxes and other costs are separate from the property price. For a condominium, request its rules for pets, visitors and shared spaces. Before committing, obtain the relevant documents and review them with your professional adviser.
